Isotopic Compositions of Plagioclase From Plutonic Xenoliths Reveal Crustal Assimilation Below Martinique, Lesser Antilles Arc

چکیده

The chemical and isotopic compositions of volcanic arc lavas often show evidence for involvement a sedimentary component during magma genesis. Determining where this is added to magmas vital importance constraining the extent which sediments volatiles are recycled at subduction zones. Lavas from Martinique in Lesser Antilles have wide ranging extending highly radiogenic values (e.g. 87 /Sr/ 86 Sr up ∼0.710) that could, principle, be explained by sediment addition mantle source or crustal assimilation upper plate. We use plagioclase plutonic xenoliths provide supporting hypothesis. Plagioclase formed mid-crust (∼12 km) restricted range unradiogenic isotope ratios ( Sr/ = 0.7041–0.7042) whereas (∼6 greater intra-sample variation more 0.7047. This trend also observed xenolith whole rock Sr. Combined, these results indicate becomes larger as result shallow levels. supported Assimilation-Fractional Crystallization modeling, shows chemically isotopically heterogenous can produce lavas. Our highlight contributions plate before using lava geochemistry quantify volatile recycling zones assessing potential heterogeneity sources.

Oxygen isotopic disequilibrium in plagioclase–corundum–hercynite xenoliths from the Voisey's Bay Intrusion, Labrador, Canada

Xenoliths of metamorphic country rocks are locally abundant within breccia sequences in gabbroic to troctolitic rocks of the Voisey's Bay Intrusion, Labrador, Canada. Thermochemical interaction with mafic magma has produced restite assemblages in the xenoliths that are composed of Ca-rich plagioclase, corundum, hercynite and minor magnetite. Hercynite was produced as a result of the breakdown o...

New additions to the shallow-water hydroids (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) of the French Lesser Antilles: Martinique.

The present report provides the first general account of the shallow-water hydroids (excluding Eudendriidae) of Martinique, French Lesser Antilles. Of a total of 92 species recorded, 10 athecates and 31 thecates are discussed here, with the remaining species having been the subject of earlier accounts. Six hydroids, namely Halecium discoidum, H. xanthellatum, Sertularella calderi, Antennellapec...

Assessment of the contamination of marine fauna by chlordecone in Guadeloupe and Martinique (Lesser Antilles).

Chlordecone is an organochlorine pesticide, used in the Lesser Antilles from 1972 to 1993 to fight against a banana weevil. That molecule is very persistent in the natural environment and ends up in the sea with runoff waters. From 2003 to 2013, seven campaigns of samplings have been conducted to evaluate the level of contamination of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. The present study is the fi...

Eruption dynamics inferred from microlite crystallization experiments: Application to Plinian and dome-forming eruptions of Mt Pelée (Martinique, Lesser Antilles)

Decompression experiments have been conducted to simulate syn-eruptive crystallization in the volcanic conduit, in order to infer magma ascent rates and conditions during domeforming and Plinian eruptions of silicic arc volcanoes. The experiments were carried out starting from Mt Pelée rhyolitic interstitial melt (76 wt. % SiO2) and consisted in three consecutive steps: hydration, decompression...

Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd isotopic variations in dissected crustal xenoliths

Four crustal xenoliths from Scotland have been dissected in order to evaluate the effects of magma-xenolith interaction on Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd isotopic systematics, and hence the use of the xenoliths for accurate determination of source compositions. Each xenolith was sampled from the edge to the center, The Nd isotopic compositions are virtually uniform across each xenolith; however, there are sig...
